The Translation Project

Welcome to the multi-author blog entitled “The Translation Project” (TTP)

TTP is a voluntary informative initiative. 16 School of English college seniors from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) translate and adapt opinion articles from English into Greek. As an ultimate goal, we aim to raise awareness on COVID-19 CRISIS related issues among the Greek-speaking audiences.

Both COVID-19 CRISIS and the lockdown, have triggered the need for multifaceted information, not only from the domestic but also from the international media. This vital need for information was the spark for our mission. In this spirit, we welcome every corresponding initiative and especially that of the students from the School of Medicine of AUTH, who voluntarily fight against SARS-CoV-2. By virtue of our own strength, we aim for the mitigation of information anxiety in the Greek public sphere, and we also support the right to access multiple sources of information.

Therefore, apart from creating written texts, in our blog we provide audio texts as well. We firmly believe that our content should be accessible to everyone: blind, visually impaired and people with low vision and dyslexia. For this purpose, there is a widget available on our page.

Three important clarifications:

1. The potential financial gain from the current initiative, direct or indirect, is under no circumstances consistent with the TTP philosophy.

2. In any case, we ask for the authors’ written permission in order to translate the texts. As far as the visual texts are concerned, we also make sure to secure the creators’ permission. We thank both parties for their support and we are more than willing to help them in return.

3. The TTP initiative will run throughout the COVID-19 CRISIS, with ultimate respect to the work of professional translators, whose steps we follow and admire.
